Fresh off of his Midwest/West Coast tour, performing from Detroit to Chicago to Phoenix to L.A. and everywhere in between, Detroit rapper Sean Forbes and his D-PAN (The Deaf Professional Artist Network) organization are building a strong following. The D-PAN movement main focus is on translating popular artists’ songs into American Sign Language music videos for the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Sean Forbes recently dropped his latest project “Perfect Imperfection” which is available now on Amazon HERE.
Sean Forbes is a musician on a mission. An accomplished and passionate drummer, rhythm pours out of him, when he breathes, walks, types at his keyboard or hits his drums. Music is in his blood, his cells; it’s just the way he is. He’s also deaf – and out to build a badly needed bridge between the music industry and deaf people everywhere.
Sean grew up in Detroit where his parents, both musicians, filled their home with the sounds of the Motor City: Mitch Ryder, Bob Seger, the Funk Brothers and more. DETROIT, MI – Eminem says in the song “Berzerk” that it’s time to “take it back to straight hip hop and start it from scratch.”
Two Detroit natives who opened the urban clothing store where Eminem earned street cred in the mid-90s plan on doing just that – with an even hipper approach.
Jerome Mongo and Maurice Malone, now a New York fashion designer, have plans to re-open the Hip Hop Shop in Detroit, possibly in a matter of months.
“I don’t like to just wait around; that’s what people do here (in Detroit),” Mongo said. “I like to make it happen, so let’s make it happen.”
The original Hip Hop Shop opened at 15736 W. 7 Mile in on Dec. 3,1993 on the city’s west side and was a hub for the hip hop and rap music scene until it closed in 1998.
Eminem (Marshall Mathers III), members of the group D12 like the late Proof (DeShaun Holton), and plenty of others often honed their skills at the Hip Hop Shop during its Saturday open mic sessions…….
